My journey with the Ulman Cancer Fund began 3 years ago when my wife and I vounteered to be "Sherpas" for their Cancer to 5K program. This rewarding experience allowed us an opportunity to not only give back but a real chance to build lasting friendships with such an inspirational team of people. Little did I know that I would soon be calling on those new friends to be a sherpa for myself. I was diagnosed in June 2017 with a very rare Hepatoid Gastric Adenocarcinoma and I've been battling every day since then. After 28 rounds of infusion chemotherapy and now 8 weeks of oral chemo, I finally feeling like the pendulum is swinging in my favor.
So after taking the initial leap to register for this ride, I am excited at the opportunity to hopefully inspire others who are also battling with cancer as well as to praise those caregivers who are assisting their loved ones on this difficult journey. I'm blessed to have a loving family, caring friends, an understanding employer and lastly a village of supporters who have all collectively encouraged me to "move this mountain" one small step at a time. So I look at this ride as my chance to show others how to fight the good fight, how to tackle small obstacles and how to live each day with gratitude even when it feels impossible to do so. The Ulman Cancer Fund is an incredible resource for those suffering from cancer and I'm proud to be able to fundraise on their behalf and support their mission. This ride is so much more than just getting back on a bike and pedaling....it's a way to put cancer in my rear view even if only for a few days, to make connections, to listen to others' stories, to show compassion and spread awareness.

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
Ulman House - This year Ulman will open a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.
CHALLENGE:
Over 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer every year. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including fertility preservation, social isolation, lack of insurance, delayed diagnosis, and more.
