Please join and support me in my journey in Point to Point 2018. This September, I will be running from Locust Point, Maryland over the course of a week, stopping at cancer facilities along the way, to the Southernmost Point of Florida with Ulman Cancer Foundation. As my team runs/walks together, we will also be meeting and sharing time with young adult cancer patients and survivors during the journey. We plan to support them, promote awareness, and fundraise in honor of those who have fought the battle with cancer. Cancer has not only affecting my family and friends, but it has affected everyone in some way or another.
My grandfather who passed away from medical complications due to cancer a few years ago was one of the most influential people in my life. His kind spirit has stuck with me and continues to motivate me to be better daily. My dad was treated for the same type of cancer several years ago and has been in remission. He is my biggest supporter, alongside my mother. They have taught me what true generosity looks like and have always encouraged me to give back to others. My passion for service and commitment to others has stemmed from them.
In addition, I encounter cancer on a daily basis with my patients at work. I practice as a physician assistant in pediatric neurosurgery to help treat children who have been diagnosed with brain and spine tumors. I witness firsthand what ugly things cancer does to my patients and their families every day. After experiencing the difficulties these children face with them, their fight has now become my fight in spreading awareness around this disease. Their strength and resilience has been my motivation on my toughest days.
My goal is to raise $4500 as a 2018 Point to Point team member through the Ulman Cancer Foundation. Running has always been a challenge for me, but I know with this cause on my mind, I am willing to challenge myself to defeat cancer. During each of the 8 days, I plan to run in honor of a different individual affected by cancer. Please consider donating to this cause and supporting my running journey to Florida. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
