This September I will be participating in Point to Point. This is a journey from Locust Point (Baltimore) to the southernmost point in Key West (Florida). Our team will run 2-3 hours per day making our 1500+ journey to raise money and awareness for the Ulman Cancer Fund. People have asked me why I want to do this and why now, and here is my answer:

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34 it felt like it brought our 'normal' life to a screeching halt. Tears, hugs and fears of the unknown became our everyday. Those first few weeks after my diagnosis I felt overwhelmed by darkness and fear and I struggled to see the light. But despite those dark days, I found the sun was continuing to shine. My husband, sons, family and friends continued to show me their love and their never-ending sunshine. Cancer took my hair, my breasts and my ability to have more children, but it will not stop me. It will not stop me from being a great mom. It will not stop me from being a loving wife. And it will not stop me from spreading my sunshine. By participating in Point to Point, I want to prove to myself and to cancer, that is has not taken my heart, my spirit or my fight.

These funds will support the Ulman Cancer Fund help navigate your adults through their treatments and to provide scholarship and support programs for cancer survivors all over the country. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
 

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore. 

Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.

Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
