Three years ago, I started on the journey of a lifetime - the 2015 Key to Keys ride from Baltimore to Key West - and it was amazing! I was also terrified…of not knowing anyone, of being the oldest and, worst of all, of being too slow! I was stressed! While the experience was like no other I had participated in, I feel like I missed out on so much because of all that worry. This is why I’m going to do it again…I need to stress less and embrace the experience more!
I have been an oncology nurse for 37 years now. I love my job and I love my patients and their families. I would do anything to make their cancer journey easier, especially the young adults who have their world turned upside down at such a pivotal time in their life journey. Once they leave our team of nurses and doctors, they still face struggles transitioning back into the world where most of their peers have no ability to understand their cancer experiences. That’s where The Ulman Cancer Fund steps in, and I truly wish Cancer to 5K was accessible to every cancer survivor!
I will have a couple of guardian angels with me during my 2018 Key to Keys journey: my Dad, who is always with me (no matter what crazy thing I decide to do) and my sister-in-law, Sylvia, who we lost to cancer last year but was one of the most inspiring people I have ever known. They both faced cancer in their own way, but with courage and grace, which I hope to carry with me in their memory I prepare for and participate in Key to Keys a second time.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
