My sister Olivia was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in 2013 during the summer after she graduated from college. Over the past three years, Olivia's gone through many different treatments and has traveled to Boston for her care. Olivia has cancer, but she is not defined by her cancer. She's the strongest, most inspiring person I know. She's witty, she's thoughtful, she's kind. She's an avid equestrian and can usually be found at the barn riding her horse Joe. She inspires me every day.
Cancer has changed her life and my family's life - but it has changed it in some amazing, positive ways...
Olivia's cancer led my family to get involved with the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults (UCF). The UCF staff and friends have surrounded my whole family with love. They have provided my sister with a support network of people who understand what she is going through. They have become part our family. They inspired me to join the UCF Cancer to 5K program in Washington D.C./Northern Virginia as a sherpa, and they've inspired my family to get involved in the Screw Cancer Brew Hope fundraiser in PA.
and...Cancer changed our lives through Key to Keys experience.
Olivia participated in the Key to Keys bicycle trip from Baltimore to Key West in 2015 and 2016 as a support driver. She showed me that this trip is more than just a bike ride – it’s an experience that changes your life. It connects you with people who know what you’re going through. It’s a trip that spreads the word about the amazing work UCF is doing for young adults with cancer. It’s a week filled with laughs, tears, joy, and much much more. I’ve seen how the Key to Keys family have embraced my sister – and now, she wants me to join the Key to Keys family too.
I’m excited to bike from Baltimore to Key West in April 2017 as part of the Key to Keys Experience. I’m ready to spread awareness of challenges facing over 70,000 young adults (ages 15-39) diagnosed with cancer every year. I’m ready to ride in honor of my sister and her amazing, courageous spirit.

The money you donate supports many UCF programs – including the patient navigator for young adult cancer patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer expereience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
