The Chiefs and Friends Team ride in memoriam of Chief Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) Surface Warfare U.S. Navy Dabet Velez. Chief Velez lost her battle with breast cancer February 16, 2008 at age 40 while still serving our country. Chief Velez was the wife of Master Chief Chief Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) U.S. Navy (Ret) Javier Velez, who has provided a support vehicle for the ride many times since 2010. My family has had its share of women affected by the monster of a disease breast cancer. Unfortunately, the Hoenig women, my Dad's Sister's family have been stricken with the BRCA gene. I have been participating in the event since 2007 and started the United States Navy Chiefs and Friends Team in 2010, who through our sponsors have raised over 105,000 dollars for the cause.
