Run for Rob

Professionally, Dr. Robert Walters is a world-renowned physicist committed to changing the world by innovating the most efficient solar power technologies on earth. Personally, Rob is known for his generosity, optimism, independent thinking, dynamic leadership and buoyant cheerfulness.

Rob has been performing independent research at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) since 1991, focused on advanced photovoltaic (PV) power sources for space and terrestrial applications. He has had a large number of research and development efforts, including three space solar cell experiments on board the International Space Station (ISS). He is co-inventor of a novel multi-junction solar cell technology. He has led the design and production of advanced, high-efficiency, flexible solar panels and is managing the transition of this technology to the U.S. Marine Corps.

Those who meet Rob are quick to point out his charisma and cheerful demeanor. He is both active and generous, which naturally evolved into his fondness for charity runs and involvement in other nonprofits. He enjoys traveling and new experiences. His cheerfulness is infectious, and it doesn’t take long for those who meet him to call him a friend. He enjoys connecting with others, and due to his curiosity, takes genuine interest in the people he meets and enjoys collaborating in their endeavors however he can.

Like the solar cells he builds, Rob always has a way of looking at the bright side of any situation. His optimism was put to the test in September 2015 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Despite his prognosis, Rob has many important qualities to arm himself against the disease. He remains as active and healthy as he can with exercise, uses his unending thirst for knowledge to study his cancer and treatment options, and maintains his positive and even humorous attitude throughout the process.

Rob is just completing six weeks of radiation and is preparing for six sessions (36 weeks total) of chemotherapy. He has responded well to treatment so far, and is in good spirits and continuing his research and projects as much as he can.

People who know Rob have been inspired by his energy, intelligence and dynamic personality. People around the world either have or one day will benefit from his work in the fields of science and renewable energy. He has helped our country make new discoveries and keep our troops and borders safe.

In recognition of Rob Walters and his eternal loyalty to his family, friends, colleagues and country, we are holding a fundraiser,”Run For Rob”, in his honor to help young adults fight cancer and embrace survivorship.  Please join us at the
Cupids Undie Run in Washington, D.C. on February 13, 2016.

The "Run for Rob" is sponsored by Lace and Loffa's.  A portion of all sales will go to the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.  Buy T-shirts at http://www.laceandloffa.com.

ABOUT Team Fight's FIGHT CLUB 2016
