Last year I participated in the Key to Keys experience as a support driver. I had no idea what to expect or what the trip would be like. I applied on a whim thinking it would be a great way to become more involved with the Ulman Cancer Fund. This trip helped to push me out of my comfort zone and connect me with other people affected by cancer.

   This year I am coming back again as a support driver. I am looking forward to meeting more people and once again pushing myself out of my comfort zone. As a cancer patient I want to show other people that even though you have cancer you can still live a normal life. I am currently on active treatment where I take daily oral chemotherapy pills for the sarcomas in my lungs. I try to stay normal by riding my horse Joe or hanging out with friends.

   The one thing I learned from this trip is, that no matter what, there is always someone out there supporting me. It can start with making a donation to a fundraising page. It can be someone on the side of the road cheering for you as you and your team are riding by. It can also be someone you just met and shared your story with them. Everyone we interact with on this trip is supporting each other. We may start as strangers but by the end of the week we become one big family of hope and support. Life’s a journey enjoy the ride.

UCF Key to Keys Experience is a journey that brings together a diverse group of individuals to build a community of support for those affected by cancer. Using cycling as a platform, Key to Keys participants come together throughout the journey to share their individual cancer connections and give out as much support to others as they are receiving.
