Friends,

I like my beard.  I don't like to shave it off.  I can count on one hand the amount of times I've shaved it in the last eight years.  The first time my friends did a "Beard-Off," I didn't join in because I didn't want to start clean-shaven (also, I didn't want to grow a thick beard in July in Baltimore).  And I wouldn't have participated this time either.

Until this Beard-Off became bigger than just an excuse to grow facial hair.

I don't know how I'd react if I found out I had cancer.  I've been blessed that so far in my life, I haven't had to find out.  I do know that I would need support.  And that while the love of my friends and family would be tremendous, I wouldn't want them to be solely responsible for supporting me.  

This is why the work being done by the Ulman Cancer Fund is so important.  We're told that young adulthood are the best years of our lives; thanks to the Ulman Cancer Fund, even for thousands of young adults with a cancer diagnosis they can be.  

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
